Born in 1991, James Wilson began playing the flute aged 8. He studies at Leeds College of Music graduating later this year. In 2012, James was winner of the Mrs Sunderland Musical Festival, Harrogate Competitive Festival for Music, Speech and Drama and East Coast Young Musician of the Year. He is a Fellow of the Victoria College of Music in flute teaching. James has had lessons with Martyn Shaw, Kevin Gowland, Robert Winn, Wissam Boustany, and Kate Hill amongst others.

As an orchestral player, James has appeared with numerous LCoM ensembles, Leeds Symphony Orchestra, and the West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra. Until 2013, James was principal flute of the Derbyshire City & County Youth Orchestra. James has performed live for BBC Radio 4 and is a previous beneficiary of the Oxford Flute Summer School Bursary.
